Dusan Lajovic v Juan Manuel Cerundolo Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came at the 2022 Miami Masters and Cerundolo had won that in straight sets.

Lajovic Continues Solid Run on Clay

Lajovic has had a good start start to the season, especially on clay, and has seen his ranking rise from a season low of 90th in the world to his current 75th.

And with a first round win over Camilo Carabelli, it can be expected to improve further. Not that he would want things to stop at his 6-1, 6-3 win his first round match that lasted an hour and 13 minutes.

With the clay court swing winding down for the moment before the Sunshine Masters, he would want to optimise his performances in South America where he’s already reached the second round at Cordoba and the quarterfinals in Buenos Aires and Rio.

Can he make it successive main draw wins for the third time in a row this season?

Qualifier Cerundolo Edges Past Cachin

In an all-Argentine battle, it was the talented Cerundolo who came through after registering a three-set win over Pedro Cachin.

Juan Manuel Cerundolo, whose brother Francisco is also a part of the second round draw, won 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 in just over two hours and to take his place in the draw next to Lajovic.

Enduring nine aces and a 78% first serve win statistic from Cachin, Cerundolo he did not let the one break of serve he faced in the entire match affect him too much. That came in the second set and allowed Cachin to level things out.

In the third, however, Cerundolo won 93% of his first serve points and when he got his only chance to break his opponent, he took it with both hands.

Things could get slightly against the experienced and in-form Lajovic though.

Lajovic v Cerundolo Prediction and Tip

While Lajovic is a favourite, we cannot discount the vastly improving Cerundolo from this. Expecting a three-setter that could see a tie-breaker or two.
