Nicolas Jarry v Yannick Hanfmann Head to Head

There has been one previous meeting between these two players and Jarry had won that in Gstaad in 2022 in two tie-breakers.

In-Form Jarry Sends Schwartzman Out

Diego Schwartzman continues to struggle to win matches and Jarry took full advantage of his Argentine opponent’s struggles as he carved out a fighting, three-set win in the second round.

Jarry was on court for three hours and seven minutes as he clinched a place in the quarterfinal with a 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (2) victory.

Schwartzman was in the game till the final set when he broke Jarry to go 3-1 ahead but once the Chilean 27-year-old had broken back, he lost just three points on serve. And while Jarry couldn’t break Schwartzman again, he ran away to a 5-0 lead in the tie-breaker that followed before closing out the encounter.

This win follows Jarry run through to the semifinal of the Rio Open last week where he had gotten past Lorenzo Musetti, Pedro Martinez and Sebastian Baez.

He will be a huge favourite here to make a second semifinal in a row.

Qualifier Hanfmann Doubles his 2023 Win Count

Hanfmann has had his time under the sun in the past with a career-best ranking of 92nd in the world but in more recent times he has struggled to get the results he so desires. That’s till the start of this tournament that is.

Because having won no main draw matches all season, Hanfmann made it two in two in a matter of a couple of days with Roberto Carballes Baena becoming his second victim.

Having routed Pedro Martinez in the first round, the qualifier over Carballes Baena 7-6 (6), 6-2, saving three set-points in the first set while doing so.

Hanfmann fighting spirit was commendable as he twice came back from a break down in the opening set, even preventing Carballes Baena from serving it out, before pushing it into a tie-breaker.

And despite falling 3-6 behind, he came back to clinch five points in a row and the set. From that point on it was one-way traffic as Hanfmann broke his opponent without facing a single break-point.

Can he put up a similar fight against Jarry?

Jarry v Hanfmann Prediction and Tip

Jarry has shown exemplary clay form in recent times and would be our pick to make it through in straight sets.
