Holger Rune v Alex de Minaur Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these players, both of which came in 2022. Rune won them both.

Rune Knocks Out Injured Berrettini

The entire quarterfinal lasted a mere 30 minutes before Rune moved into his second semifinal of the season. Matteo Berrettini, who clearly looked like he had leg-related fitness issues in the encounter, was down 6-0, 1-0 when he opted out of the contest to award Rune a place in the semifinal.

Such was the one-sided nature of the contest, Rune lost just two points on his own serve and won 12 of the 17 points on his opponent’s service. He broke Berrettini three times and it could well have gotten a lot worse for the Italian had he continued playing.

Earlier in the tournament, Rune was taken to three sets by Ben Shelton in the first round but came back strongly in the second to get past Nuno Borges. He dropped just two games in the match.

The good news for Rune is he plays an opponent whom he has never lost to in the past and a win here will take him to his first final since the Paris Masters last year.

Easy Win for de Minaur Over Daniel

Taro Daniel had had a struggle all season and to have even made it as far as the quarterfinals here would have counted as an achievement of sorts. Unfortunately for him, De Minaur put an end to his fairy tale for the tournament in two easy sets.

The Aussie needed an hour and 38 minutes to get past Daniel winning 6-2, 6-2 and reaching the semifinal of a tournament for the first time this season. This was also just the second time in 2023 that de Minaur has won three matches in a row after having earned that at the Australian Open as well.

Having dropped just four games across the previous two rounds, de Minaur shrugged an early trade of service breaks in the first set to win 10 of the last 12 games on show.

De Minaur will now be hoping to make it to his first ATP final since having won the Atlanta Open title last July. Standing in his way though is a player who seems to have his rhythm rather nicely.

Rune v de Minaur Prediction and Tip

Form-wise both have shown what they are capable of and that is why this could get difficult for both players. Rune’s previous matches against de Minaur, however, have shown that even when he was not at his best, he is a better player than the Aussie and we will back him here.
