Tommy Paul v Alex de Minaur Head to Head
There have been three previous meetings between these two players and all of them came last year. Played on the three different surfaces, hardcourt, clay and grass, it was de Minaur who won them all.

Paul Shocks World Number Five
Taylor Fritz was on a bit of a roll and was a 1/2 favourite to enter the final. Paul, however, had other ideas as he battled through three and a half hours, three sets and two tie-breakers to come through.
Paul won 6-3, 6-7 (2), 7-6 (2) in a match that could have gone either way right through the course of its duration. It was quite hard to pick sides.
In fact Paul had a chance to close it out in the second set itself when he served for the match at 5-4 and got himself a match-point too. Fritz saved that and broke right back before closing out the equaliser in the ensuing tie-breaker.
The third set had Fritz racing away to a 2-0 lead and he held on to have another break-point for a 4-1 lead. Instead, Paul held on this time and broke Fritz in the very next game but then frittered away two match-points on his opponent’s serve at 5-6.
Paul had no such issues in the final tie-breaker though as he earned himself a couple of mini-breaks and raced off to a 5-0 lead before closing things out.
Coming in from an Australian Open semifinal appearance, Paul’s stocks seem to be rising by the minute and this could be a golden chance for him to break into the top-20 of the ATP Rankings for the second time in his career.

de Minaur Brings About Rune Capitulation
Much like Paul, not too many had given de Minaur a chance in his semifinal against Holger Rune. More so when Rune raced away in the first set, winning it in 47 minutes thanks to a break of serve in the fourth game.
In the second set, both players had their chances to break the other but kept missing them, levelling out at 5-5. With a tie-breaker looming large in the second set horizon, de Minaur held to 15 and then earned himself three set-points on Rune’s serve.
While he missed the first two, de Minaur converted the third to pull through to a decider.
Things turned on their head in the third set as de Minaur broke a now flailing Rune serve in the very second game and then lost just four points on his own serve from that point onward. The Aussie broke a second time to close out the encounter 3-6, 7-5, 6-2, recording a shock win.
Earlier in the tournament, de Minaur had dropped a mere eight games over three rounds to make it to the semifinal.
Paul v de Minaur Prediction and Tip
This could turn out to be an excellent match, with nothing really to separate the two. A keen tussle awaits us which could see a third set or a topsy-turvy, hard-fought two.
