The other side of the story, however, for Shelton has his struggles in the remaining four tournaments he has featured in this season. He has only one main draw win in total in them.
More recently, Shelton is coming off a three-match losing streak, including two successive losses in the first round at the Delray Beach Open and Acapulco Open. He went down to Marcos Giron and Holger Rune there.

Fognini 1-5 for the Season
Clay is Fognini’s favourite surface and that’s why the quick shift from hardcourt to clay court competitions occurred for the Italian player. Unfortunately for Fognini, it hasn’t helped him one bit.
After starting out with opening round defeats at the Auckland Open and Australian Open, Fognini has featured at the Argentina Open, Rio Open and Santiago Open on clay. And won just one match.
As a result of the consistency that Fognini has shown in not winning a lot of matches over the past two seasons and a poor start to 2023, his ranking has fallen to 88th in the world. He is 35 and no spring chicken but even by those standards he would have liked to do better on the clay court swing.
Fognini has an interesting record at the Indian Wells Open though. While he has made it to the fourth round here only once, he has also never lost his opener in this competition since 2011.
