Marketa Vondrousova v Rebecca Marino Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these two players including one at the Billie Jean King Cup and Vondrousova has won them both in straight sets.

Vondrousova Made Linz Open Semifinal

Vondrousova has done rather well in the past at the Indian Wells Open, having reached the fourth round on two occasions and even reached the quarterfinal on a third.

She enters this year’s edition on the back of seven wins this season from 11 matches but Vondrousova did fall in the very first round of the WTA Dubai. Drawn to face fellow Czech player Karolina Pliskova, Vondrousova was sent packing in straight sets despite showing good form coming into that tournament.

Because earlier, Vondrousova had won successive matches at both the Adelaide International and Australian Open to reach the third round.

And in Linz, she went one better by entering the semifinal before Anastasia Potapova got the better of her.

Can she pick up where she left off from last season in Indian Wells having defeated the fourth seeded Anett Kontaveit on her way?

Marino Has Won Just Two Matches This Season

Marino’s struggles have been real in 2023, with the former world number 38 struggling win too many main draw matches.

Having begun the season ranked 63rd in the world, Marino has slowly slipped down to 75th at the moment and that has been down to her inability to push on in all the seven tournaments she has played in.

She looked to have done well to win her opener at the Auckland Open, the first tournament she featured in, but has followed it up with six tournaments in which she failed to make it past the first round.

It was only recently in Monterrey that Marino finally won her second main draw match, defeating Fernanda Contreras Gomez in the opener in two tie-breakers despite starting out as a 1/4 favourite. In the very next round, Marino fell in three sets to Lin Zhu.

With that kind of form, it is difficult to see Marino get past her opener here.

Vondrousova v Marino Prediction and Tip

Vondrousova should have no worries in this one despite being ranked lower than Marino. Whether she can do that in straight sets or not remains to be seen but it could well be a hard-fought one that goes Vondrousova’s way.
