Collins Hoping to Break Back into the Top 20

Collins had climbed up to seventh in the world last season before ending the year at 14th on the WTA charts.

She looked to be climbing back up when she reached 11th at the end of the second week of the 2023 season but losing in the third round of the Australian Open where Collins was defending runner-up points from the previous season meant the slide began again.

First round losses at the Abu Dhabi Open and WTA Dubai did not help, while a second round 6-0, 6-1 loss at the hands of Iga Swiatek in Doha only opened up a few more wounds.

Which is why Collins would be slightly relieved at having reached the semifinal of the Austin Open last week. She lost to the eventual winner Marta Kostyuk at the last four stage but that helped her improve her ranking from a season low of 42 to her current 31.

Another deep run here after getting up to the third round of the Indian Wells Open last season could go a long way in helping Collins keep chipping away at making a splash in the top 20 again.

Korpatsch 0-7 for the Season

It’s been a deeply forgettable season for Korpatsch, who has featured in five WTA and two ITF tournaments in 2023 and lost every single match.

Rather surprisingly, her ranking hasn’t been deeply affected by this run of poor form because of the lack of any points she was defending from this period last year. Things could, however, take a sudden dip very soon for Korpatsch.

That’s because in the period between March and April last year, Korpatsch had won an ITF title, was a runner-up at a WTA 125 tournament and then reached the second round of the Stuttgart Open, which was a WTA 500 competition.

There are a lot of points to defend here for the German and with the kind of form that she is in and with the pedigree of the opponent she would be up against, things might get even more difficult.

Can Korpatsch prevent an eighth loss in a row?

Collins v Korpatsch Prediction and Tip

Collins should not have a lot of worries, and we expect her to come through in straight sets in this encounter.
