Jason Kubler v Lorenzo Sonego Head to Head

There has been one previous meeting between these two players at the highest level and another one on the Challenger circuit. Kubler has won them both.

Kubler Steady But Would Like to Break Away

For a player ranked 75th in the world and with a career-best ranking of 71, Kubler looks to have done well to register seven wins from 11 matches played this season so far.

The Aussie would, however, like to go deeper than the quarterfinal appearance at the Manama Challenger last month.

At three of the other four top level ATP competitions that Kubler has played this season, he has managed a win and a loss apiece, while winning both his singles matches at the United Cup.

As far as promise goes, Kubler has shown a lot of this season – enough to have hit his career-best rank as well. The question is whether a strong run in a Masters 1000 tournament is around the corner – one which could see him break into the top 50 for the first time.

Sonego Hoping for Consistency

It’s not the kind of start to the season that Sonego would have liked. He is a former world number 21 and knows that he can do a lot better than his five victories from 12 matches, which have included four opening round defeats so far this season.

What’s interesting to note is that Sonego has been handed over a difficult early draw this season at most times.

At the Adelaide International, he faced Daniil Medvedev in the first round. Sonego was then up against Hubert Hurkacz in the second round of the Australian Open.

Jannik Sinner in the Montpellier quarterfinals, Felix Auger-Aliassime in the Rotterdam opener and Andy Murray in the first round of the Qatar Open have been his other opponents.

With this being the case, life might not have been that easy for Sonego. Which is why as he faces Kubler in the opener here, Sonego has a good chance to prove he is one of the better second-rung tennis players around.

Kubler v Sonego Prediction and Tip

Sonego starts off as a favourite here despite his poor record this season and that can be explained from what we have mentioned above. We think the Italian should grab this in a keen tussle.
