Solid Year for Putintseva
Yulia Putintseva has always been a solid player and her start to this year is exactly that – solid. She’s 7-7 so far with some impressive showings but also one’s that are confusing. It’s all pretty on brand for the player whose best result here came in 2019 when she got to the 3rd round.
Her form lately has been pretty decent as she was able to win some matches but also keep the one’s she lost close. That’s all you can ask for and that makes her a tricky player to play. She has a wide array of weapons which can make one’s life pretty complicated.
It’s certainly something that she could exploit against Muchova who can have problems with speedy players like Putintseva. I expect a pretty close match, probably one that goes to three sets but I’m not sure if I can see Putintseva winning.
It will come down to how well she plays on return and whether she can create any kind of pressure on the serve of Muchova. If she can, she’ll have a chance.

Muchova Slowly Rising
The last time Muchova took the courts was in Dubai and she made the quarter-finals. Her tennis has been slowly rising and she’s marching back to the top 20 where she once was. Injuries in the past two years prevented Muchova from playing in Indian Wells so this will be her first time doing so.
It’s an event that should suit her style of play. A powerful serve, some flat groundstrokes. That works really well here if you can find a good rhythm and keep it up. A 7-3 record so far this year indicates that she can as she finally seems fully healthy.
She’s had some good wins in Miami which indicates to me that she’ll do fine in Dubai. Facing a player you never played will be a challenge though.
If she finds a way to manoeuvre around Puttinseva and her style of play I see Muchova winning this match. Not only this match but a couple more as well.
Putintseva v Muchova Prediction and Tip
This is a tricky one to call as both could win. The conditions should favour Muchova a bit more but Putintseva can win here, she’s done so in the past. I think it will be close, probably an over but unsure who might take it.
