Kalinskaya Coming off a Solid Austin Performance

Kalinskaya’s form seemed to have tapered off a tad as she failed to win too many matches over the first six tournaments she participated in. In fact for someone who was threatening to break into the top 50 and even go better, just two wins from six competitions looked very underwhelming.

More so because Kalinskaya was bounced out of three of those tournaments in the qualifying rounds itself.

Which is why she would be relieved to have won a couple of matches in Austin last week. Starting out as a favourite against both, Nao Hibino and Coco Vandeweghe, Kalinskaya lived up to that billing and made it to the last eight stage.

And there, she was a set up against the former Australian Open runner-up Danielle Collins before losing in three.

Kalinskaya enters this tournament knowing she will need to start performing well given she had made the third round here last year and stands to lose a few points if she gets knocked out early.

Parks Hoping to Prove Lyon Win Not a Fluke

For someone who was outside the top 200 on the WTA Rankings charts last season, Parks has done really well to close in on the top 50 this season. This has been thanks to her performance at the Lyon Open where the American stunned one player after another to conjure up a title win.

Wins over Petra Martic and Danka Kovinic might have been a touch surprising but the biggest shock came in the final where Parks defeated Caroline Garcia in straight sets to lift the title.

She would want to replicate that kind of a showing in a bigger tournament like this one now.

There are obvious issues here though. For starters, Parks has never won a round in any WTA 1000 tournament so far. She has also struggled to get going in any of the other competitions this season – her record reads just one main draw win from four other competitions.

Can she win her maiden WTA 1000 match of her career?

Kalinskaya v Parks Prediction and Tip

Kalinskaya will start off a 1/2 favourite according to bookmakers but we think is too close to call. A three-setter expected.
