Venus Williams v Andrea Petkovic Head to Head
The two ladies have met a total of four times on the tour so far and the head to head tally is currently tied at 2-2. Their last match took place back in 2014 WTA Stanford, where Petkovic moved past Venus in three sets.
Venus’ First Appearance Since Melbourne
The 2019 season started with speculations that Venus Williams will possibly retire at the end of the year. The 38-year-old has achieved a lot over the course of her stellar career, including 7 Grand Slam titles and four Olympic Gold medals.
So far this year, the American has played only in two tournaments – WTA Auckland and the Australian Open. In both cases, she reached as far as the third round losing respectively to Bianca Andreescu and Simona Halep.
Williams hasn’t reached the final on the tour since 2017 – a year that saw her collect runner-up trophy at the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and the WTA Finals. She played 1000th career match last year which was almost immediately followed by her struggles with form.

Petkovic Hoping to Make an Impression
Petkovic, who at one point in time was World No. 9, has fallen off the radar over the last couple of seasons. Her last title was the WTA Antwerp which she won courtesy of a walkover in the final.
She hasn’t been that impressive over the last couple of seasons, with the sole exception of her run in the WTA Washington. She had an interesting run there and reached the semifinal after defeating Sloane Stephens and Belinda Bencic. Petkovic, however, ultimately lost to Svetlana Kuznetsova.
Considering her performance this season, she has hardly made it past the early rounds on the tour. In Brisbane and St. Petersburg, she lost in the qualifiers while in the Australian Open, she was knocked out by Irina-Camelia Begu in the first round. Apart from that, Petkovic also lost her Fed Cup fixture to Aryna Sabalenka.
Venus Williams v Andrea Petkovic Tips & Predictions
This is one of those fixtures that can quite possibly go either way. Both the players have been struggling greatly with their forms of late. But if we have to pick a favourite, it would be Williams simply because she has more winning experience than Petkovic.
Tip: Williams to win: 1/2 (betway)
