Emil Ruusuvuori v Constant Lestienne
Ruusuvuori and Lestienne played only once so far and the French player was able to win that match last year in Tel Aviv. This match will be played outdoors, something that should benefit Emil more due to the raw power in his serve and forehand.
Neither of them has played that well this year as Emil has a 5-7 record so far this year with Lestienne holding a 6-6 record overall. Both are excellent on hard courts but generally, Lestienne does better indoors with Ruusuvuori having played more outdoors.
Both are streaky but that is especially the case for the Finnish player who can be very different depending on the day. It makes playing him really tricky because you never know when he’ll show up properly for the match. Even with that, I feel like he’s closer to winning here.
The serve is a major weapon and so is the forehand. He just needs to find a way not to hit himself out of a match. If he does that, he should win.
Tip: Ruusuvuori to win: 2/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Anna Kalinskaya v Alycia Parks
Alycia Parks will finally get a chance to play some tennis on her native soil and it should be a good thing for her. She’ll need that fan support against a very strong opponent who loves playing in conditions like these. Parks has had a better year so far with a 7-4 record but most of that came in Lyon a few weeks ago.
Her form when moving outdoors has been rather poor because her serve gets affected by the conditions and it’s something she needs to get used to. Kalinskaya has been up and down with a 6-7 record but that’s the cast for most of her career.
The Russian did reach the 3rd round here last year so she has experience when it comes to playing here. She’s also favoured showing you that Parks isn’t really in good form right now. Even so, I think there is value in the over on the games here.
Kalinskaya is likely to win but I don’t see her winning in straight sets. Parks might surprise her a bit and win a set at least so take the over.
Tip: Over 22.5 games in the match: 1/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Gael Monfils v Jordan Thompson
The last time Monfils stood on the court was in August last year when he injured himself against Jack Draper in Montreal. He was playing well at the time and generally, he was playing well last year when he did play. Now, after many months he’s back and it’s a tricky round one.
They never faced each other in a competitive match but Thompson is really solid and will make you work for every point. He’s really solid in conditions like that and doesn’t mind playing long rallies either. Monfils has been decent in Indian Wells over the years and defeated Medvedev here last year.
Expect the French player to be a bit rusty, possibly even lose the first set but over time I do expect him to find a way to win the match. He’s still pretty good, he knows how to play in conditions like these and he knows how to pick his spots.
The fans seeing him back as well should give him a boost because he’s always played best when the atmosphere is good and it being an evening match should guarantee that.
Tip: Monfils to win: 6/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
