Alize Cornet v Evgeniya Rodina Head to Head

The two ladies have never met before on the WTA Tour.

Cornet Struggling Greatly

World No. 68 Alize Cornet is enduring a slow start to the season. Her record at the moment stands at 1-5, with that sole victory coming in the United Cup against Maria Carle.

Since then, the Frenchwoman has lost four matches in a row to players like Elisabetta Cocciaretto (Hobart), Leylah Fernandez (Melbourne), Camila Osorio (Lyon), and Dayana Yastremska (Dubai).

Cornet did script some personal history last season by reaching her maiden Grand Slam quarterfinal in Melbourne and later ending the year with a runner-up feat in Monastir. As for her record in Indian Wells, she has never made it past the third round.

Rodina on a Slow Roll

Evgeniya Rodina, former World No. 67, current #427, is about to compete in only her second tournament of the season.

The first one was the Australian Open where she lost to Katie Volynets in the opener.

The 34-year-old has not played a whole lot of tennis over the last couple of seasons. In 2019, she clocked 4-19 and then returned to the tour only in 2022, where she recorded 2-3. The two wins came against Martina Trevisan and Elena-Gabriela Ruse in the US Open and Jasmin Open respectively.

In Indian Wells, the farthest she has gone is to round three, back in 2008. She did win the Challenger doubles here in March 2019 with Kristyna Pliskova.

Cornet v Rodina Prediction and Tip

Cornet has got a wonderful opportunity here to make up for her poor form and find some momentum. Her opponent has hardly played competitive tennis in the last 24 months, which gives Alize a significant edge.

That said, Rodina has surprised her opponents in the past from disadvantaged positions and Cornet isn’t at her best right now either. Punters may want to consider that the Russian does make for a value bet here.
