Lin Zhu v Lesia Tsurenko Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between these players and it’s 1-1 on head to head. They first met in the second round of the 2019 WTA Dubai where Tsurenko won in three sets but Zhu had her revenge recently in the Hua Hin Open final where she routed her opponent to lift her second WTA title.

Ranked 33rd in the world, Zhu is currently at her career-best and that has been thanks to her very solid performances all season.
It started at the Australian Open where she made the fourth round before going down fighting against Victoria Azarenka. Zhu continued to reap rich benefits of taking her form forward she came into the Hua Hin Open as a favourite and lived up to the top billing by winning the title.
That was the second tournament win of her career.
And while she fell in the first round of the Merida Open to Caty McNally, Zhu bounced back with a fine performance at the Monterrey Open where she reached the semifinal as well.
Compare this with her last season where in the first couple of months, she had just one main draw win on the WTA circuit under her belt. She will feel she has a good chance of knocking a few players over in this competition this time.

Tsurenko Scrapes Through the Qualifiers
It’s been a bit of a strange season for Tsurenko. She made it all the way through to the final of the Hua Hin Open – the same tournament that Zhu won by beating her in title-decider – but other than that there has been no performance of note from Tsurenko.
Kick-starting the season on the ITF circuit in Canberra where Tsurenko made the semifinal, she has featured in three other WTA tournaments since then.
At all three, namely the Australian Open, Merida Open and the Monterrey Open, Tsurenko has won her qualifiers to make it to the main draw but then fallen in the first round itself.
Here in Indian Wells, a tournament she has done well in the past – Tsurenko was a quarterfinalist here in 2015 – the world number 95 has done it again, i.e. made it through as a qualifier. Can she break the hoodoo and win the opener though?
Zhu v Tsurenko Prediction and Tip
With the kind of form that Zhu is in, it’s difficult to see how Tsurenko will find a way past her defences. Expecting the Chinese player to win and in straight sets.
