Frances Tiafoe v Marcos Giron Head to Head
There have been three previous meetings between these two players and Tiafoe leads 2-1.
They have all come on different surfaces; indoors at the Paris Masters where Giron got past his opponent and the Houston Open and US Open in 2022 where Tiafoe won.

Overall this season, Tiafoe has won 10 of the 13 matches he has played which gives him a very sturdy record for the year. Where, however, he could do a lot better is to go deeper into tournaments especially after the kind of start he had at the United Cup.
Tiafoe won all his five singles matches at that tournament to help US lift the title but since then he has faltered a tad.
A third round defeat at the Australian Open would have been a slight setback. So would have been a quarterfinal exit at the Acapulco Open when he lost in straight sets to the in-form Taylor Fritz.
What would have been most troubling was his loss to JJ Wolf in Dallas despite going a set up.
Tiafoe now starts off against a tricky opposition especially given both his last two defeats have come up against American players.

Giron Convincing against Kovacevic
It took Giron two sets and less than a hour and a half to get past Aleksandar Kovacevic in his opening round to improve upon his last season’s showing at this tournament.
While Giron was stretched a little in the second set, he came through without dropping his serve even once, clinching a 6-3, 7-5 victory. A first serve win percentage of 90% helped his cause no end even as Giron got the better of Kovacevic’s serve three times in the encounter.
While Kovacevic did manage to do a lot better on his serve in the second set, it was in a longish 12th game there that he failed to hold on to his service despite getting four game-points. Giron converted the second break-point – and match-point – in that game to march on to round two.
This follows three previous tournaments this season in which Giron has made it to the quarterfinals after winning back to back matches. Can he make this his fourth?
Tiafoe v Giron Prediction and Tip
Tiafoe will face a tough challenge but we still expect him to come through in straight sets. Might see one set go the distance though.
