Veronika Kudermetova v Anna Blinkova Head to Head

There have been three previous meetings between these two players and Kudermetova has won every single time. One of them came on the ITF circuit, another was a qualifier in Shenzhen and the third, most recent match was played in Rosmalen last year.

Kudermetova Quarterfinalist Last Year

Kudermetova broke into the top 20 of the rankings last August and has maintained that position since. In fact she also managed to enter the top 10 last year, ending the season ranked ninth and while she has fallen off a little, the Russian has continued to keep chipping away at the results.

This can be seen from her performances at the Adelaide International and WTA Doha. At both those tournaments she made the semifinal before withdrawing from one and going down to Iga Swiatek in the other.

It’s her slightly earlier exits at the Australian Open, Abu Dhabi Open and WTA Dubai which will be slightly concerning.

One of the reasons for that is so far she hasn’t had to defend a lot of points coming into the tournaments but starting from the Indian Wells Open, things could change. As a quarterfinalist here last season, she will need to start winning and going deeper.

She shouldn’t have a lot of difficulties starting out here.

Blinkova Routs Li in Opener

It was expected to be tough opening encounter for Blinkova who had gone into it as a 3/4 favourite against Ann Li. As it turned out, she needed a mere hour and two minutes to come through to the second round.

Blinkova won 6-1, 6-2 with nothing going the way of her opponent in the entire match. Li had three break-points but failed to convert any of them eve as Blinkova broke her five times in the opener.

This win follows a season that has seen Blinkova reach the semifinal of the Hobart International after starting out as a qualifier but do nothing else of note. In fact she had lost five of her other seven matches to go with that Hobart showing, making it a tough call to make for this one.

Now that she has started off well, Blinkova would like to kick on from there, especially against a player who could be slightly rusty.

Kudermetova v Blinkova Prediction and Tip

Kudermetova is 2/9 to win this but can she ease her way past her opponent? We think it could turn out to be a keen tussle that might even go into a third.
