Casper Ruud v Diego Schwartzman Head to Head

Diego Schwartzman leads Casper Ruud 5-3 in their head-to-head. Incidentally, this will be a rematch of their 2021 Indian Wells tournament which was won by the Argentine in straight sets.

Can Ruud Find Form in the Desert?

Casper Ruud has not been himself. As bad as it sounds, playing such a heavy schedule with a ton of exhibition matches with Rafael Nadal during the off-season took a toll on the Norwegian, both mentally and physically.

We haven’t seen the best of Casper Ruud who has been on the wrong end of four defeats in seven matches this year.

Ruud even forfeited his participation in the Golden Swing this season, instead taking a month off after his second-round shocker at the Australian Open.

But on his return to the courts, not a lot changed, with Ruud struggling to beat Argentine journeyman Guido Andreozzi in Acapulco. But his fate was sealed when Taro Daniel sent him packing in the second round in Mexico.

The World No. 4 will be hoping the conditions in the desert will allow him time and space to outmuscle his opponents with his superior baseline skills. Can he find his form at Indian Wells?

Schwartzman Scores Second Win of the Season

It has also been a chaotic season for Diego Schwartzman who has had to deal with a lot of baggage both on and off the court. But there is no doubt that Wednesday’s win in the all-Argentintian clash against Federico Coria meant a lot more for the former World No. 8.

Schwartzman endured one of the worst starts to a season in his career, winning once in six tournaments. It was completely unheard of for Schwartzman to struggle on his beloved red clay in South America, gifting opponents wins on a tea tray.

But his level gradually improved, most notably in his defeat to eventual Santiago champion Nicolas Jarry in Chile. And in his opening match at Indian Wells, Schwartzman got his mojo back, albeit for one match against an underperforming countryman on hard courts.

It was like watching the Schwartzman of old, as he delivered a devastating performance. He broke Coria six times, and won 34 receiving points, over twice that of his opponent.

The 30-year-old rounded off a near-perfect performance 6-1 6-2 in just 70 minutes.

Ruud v Schwartzman Prediction and Tip

It is hard to dispute that Ruud needed a rest badly after a busy off-season. Hopefully, we have seen the last of his poor form. I expect him to be fully charged for this one.
