Jessica Pegula v Camila Giorgi Head to Head
This is an age-old rivalry which began on the ITF circuit where they played thrice in 2011 and 2012 and Pegula had won two of them.
They then moved on to the WTA tour where Pegula won four of the five matches including two last season in Madrid and Toronto. It’s 3-2 in favour of Pegula in hardcourt competitions.

Pegula 13-4 for the Season
Continuing on from where she left off last season, Pegula has not stopped winning and as a result of that reached a career-high ranking of third in the world.
While the American number one hasn’t won a singles title this season, she did help the USA clinch the opening edition of the United Cup played earlier this year with four wins from five singles matches.
And she has followed that up with solid performances at the next three tournaments she has played.
At the Australian Open that followed, Pegula reached the quarterfinals with wins over Marta Kostyuk and Barbora Krejcikova. She then defeated Jelena Ostapenko, Beatriz Haddad Maia and Maria Sakkari to make it to the final of the WTA Doha but lost to Iga Swiatek in the final.
And more recently, Pegula was a semifinalist in Dubai, going down in three sets to Barbora Krejcikova.
Can the American now go past the second round here, having lost at this very stage of the Indian Wells Open last season?

Giorgi Eases Past Rus
Having won the Merida Open title only two weeks ago, it was no surprise that Giorgi had gone into her opener here against Arantxa Rus as a 1/4 favourite to win it.
And that’s exactly what she did, having gotten past Rus in an hour and 37 minutes, winning 6-3, 6-3 to make it to the second round. Despite getting broken once in both the sets, Giorgi held her nerve and came through without a lot of trouble.
In the opening set, it was Giorgi who led 3-1 before exchanging breaks of serves to carve out the lead. This was followed by Rus taking the same lead in the second set only to see Rus close the match by winning five games in a row from that point onward.
Giorgi had been knocked out in the first round in Monterrey last week but that was to do with her finals run to the previous Sunday in Merida, making it difficult for her to travel and continue hitting the tennis ball with the same zest.
Now well-rested, she has made a good start to this competition.
Pegula v Giorgi Prediction and Tip
Pegula is a favourite but this is no way discounting the presence of Giorgi who has defeated top-10 players in the past including three in 2022 itself. We can expect a fighting three-setter here if Giorgi plays to potential.

- Moderate Risk Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
