Ilya Ivashka v Botic van de Zandschulp Head to Head

They played two times so far with the Dutch player winning both times. Both happened this year with Botic triumphing both at the Australian Open and in Doha. He dropped only one set out of six sets played.

Ivashka Finally Wins

Ilya Ivashka hasn’t had the best of years so far with only one victory and it happened just a day ago. Before this event, Ivashka was 0-5 before coming to this event and two of those losses actually came against his 2nd round opponent.

The Belarussian generally does play really well in the States because the condition really suit him but having had an injury-ridden season last year means that he hasn’t played continuous tennis for a long time. It will take him time to get back to his best and his struggles are evident.

Generally, a very solid player who has flat groundstrokes and mixes them well from both sides. The serve is fair, he can come up to the net if he needs to so generally there is not much faulty in his game overall.

He doesn’t have the strongest groundstrokes and there is a definite limit to his talent but overall he’s pretty solid. He hasn’t played that well lately but perhaps Indian Wells will be a start of a good run for him.

Solid Year for van de Zandschulp

The Dutch player has yet to play a match in Indian Wells as he had a BYE as a seed. His last match was in Dubai where he took on Andrey Rublev and lost in two sets. He was pretty solid here last year getting to the 3rd round and he’ll like to repeat that again.

North American hard courts have been solid for him but he generally prefers them on the quicker side. Slow courts don’t bother him too much as he played a lot on clay growing up and he’s generally shown a higher level than his next opponent this year.

He has 5 losses like Ivashka but he also has 7 wins which is six more than the Belarusian. The serve is a focal point of his game and allows much of what he likes to do. He has pretty solid groundstrokes but can be quite erratic at times with many errors.

The key for him to win this matchup is to keep his service percentage high which should alow him to keep the rallies short. Longer ones might be more beneficial for Ivashka who is the less aggressive player out of the two.

Ivashka v van de Zandschulp Prediction and Tip

Due to both of their matches, this year going to van de Zandschulp this year and him generally playing a bit better I’m going to with the Dutch player. The over might not be a bad idea either but I’m not sure Ivashka will be able to get it across.
