Madison Keys v Sorana Cirstea Head to Head

There has been one previous meeting between these two and that came in the 2019 Madrid Open. Cirstea was a surprise winner in that one in three sets.

Keys Solid in 2023

Keys was one of the players responsible for USA’s title win at the first ever United Cup tournament to kick the season off. It was Keys who won all her five singles matches which included victories over Marie Bouzkova and Magda Linette.

She would have liked to do a lot better than her third round exit at the Australian Open where she went down in three sets to Victoria Azarenka.

A first round loss against Jelena Ostapenko followed soon after in Doha but Keys looked to have recovered lost ground when she made it all the way through to the quarterfinal in Dubai.

More vitally, she extracted her revenge with a win over Azarenka and defeated Jasmine Paolini and Caroline Garcia to go with that as well. In the end, it was Cori Gauff who got the better of her.

Keys faces a tricky opponent but she has shown this season what she is capable of and the American should not have a lot of issues here by the looks of it.

Cirstea Blows Birrell Away

It has been a forgettable season for Cirstea and a win over Kimberly Birrell in the first round here can only be bit of a relief following her performances before that.

Having won just two main draw matches all season in the lead-up to this tournament, Cirstea would have been slightly nervous coming into the Birrell encounter. Once she was on court, however, there wasn’t much looking back.

Cirstea defeated her 115th-ranked opponent 6-3, 6-2 in an hour and 21 minutes to cruise into the second round for the third year running at the Indian Wells Open. She had reached the fourth round here last season.

Having run away to a 5-1 lead in the first set, Cirstea was broken for the first time in the match but she still managed to win the set by holding her serve next game. The duo exchanged serves in the first two games of the second set only for Cirstea to run away with the encounter two more breaks of serves in the set.

Can she now get past a player she has already beaten once before but on a slower surface?

Keys v Cirstea Prediction and Tip

Keys will be our pick and to win in straight sets on the faster surface of Indian Wells.
