De Minaur Wins Acapulco Crown

Alex de Minaur arrives at Indian Wells fresh off a title win in Mexico just a week ago.

The Acapulco 500 is the biggest that De Minaur has won in his career, and he did so by scraping a couple of nailbiters in the semifinal against Holger Rune (third top-10 scalp in 2023) and the final against Tommy Paul.

De Minaur improves to 13-5 for the season and is one of the  ATP’s early pacesetters. He has since re-entered the top 20 and replaced Nick Kyrgios as Australia’s top-ranked player.

In the ATP Race, which factors points earned in 2023, De Minaur is ranked 7th. Indian Wells has been a happy hunting ground for the Aussie who has reached the Round of 16 twice in his career.

Fucsovics Stuns Wolf

Marton Fucsovics scored a low-key upset in the first round, eliminating home favorite J.J. Wolf – his first top-50 win of the season and secured his place in the second round of Indian Wells for the first time since 2019.

Fucsovics came from a set down to win 1-6 6-0 6-3. The World No. 84 is playing a lot better than his current ranking and has enjoyed a rapid return to form in the past two months.

Fucsovics had a really difficult time reading the J.J. Wolf serve in the first set, with American’s truncated ball toss making him very unpredictable.

But once Fucsovics began to put him under pressure, the chances presented themselves. The American was broken three times in the second set as the Hungarian outmuscled Wolf in baseline exchanges to level the match.

Despite going down a break early in the third, Fucsovics’ pressure on the Wolf serve mounted and he had a lot more pop in his ground strokes to restore parity before breaking late in the decider for the second time to clinch the win.

De Minaur v Fucsovics Prediction and Tip

De Minaur is coming off the biggest title triumph of his career. He cannot afford a slow start as Fucsovics can be ruthlessly efficient as evident in his win over Wolf. Still, we reckon a fresh De Minaur will be up for the challenge here.
