Carlos Alcaraz v Thanasi Kokkinakis
Carlos Alcaraz declared himself fully fit after pulling out of Acapulco due to a hamstring injury. It’s the same injury that kept him out of the Australian Open so fans were worried he would miss this event. Kokkinakis has no issues in that way as he’s enjoying the best stretch in recent months.
After capturing a challenger trophy the Australian is able to keep adding to his form as he looked really sharp in the first round here. Much of his game is built around the serve and the forehand which can rival some of the best in the game.
Alcaraz has a bit more variety in his game and he should be a better natural fit in these conditions. They will play at night which should make the painfully slow conditions in Indian Wells even slower. That’s a bit of an issue for Kokkinakis who never played Alcaraz
If Alcaraz is truly healthy and that’s a big if, then I see him winning this relatively comfortably. He simply has too much to handle Kokkinakis, especially when things slow down even more at night.
Tip: Alcaraz to win in straight sets: 4/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Magda Linette v Emma Raducanu
Emma Raducanu decided on playing the 1st round matchup only 20 minutes before the match skipping the warm-up altogether. Generally, that means that the wrist did bother her in practice but very little of that was visible during the match.
She played really and won it comfortably but that doesn’t mean much for this match. One bad move and her wrist could flare up again crumbling her entire event. Magda Linette is not the sort of player you want to play when you’re dealing with it.
A very competitive fighter who stays in matches and plays really well on slower courts, Linette will look to extend rallies against Raducanu. It didn’t work the last time they played which was in Seoul last year. Raducanu won that 6-2 6-2 and if she was fully healthy I’d back her easily.
However, the wrist makes me pause a little bit. I do lean towards her still but generally, I think this will be far more competitive than the Seoul one.
Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 4/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Andy Murray v Pablo Carreno Busta
Andy Murray won in the first round but he would really like not to have played for over three hours. That’s the next step for the former number one – figuring out how to win matches in straight sets and under two hours. He faces another tricky play Carreno Busta in the second round.
It hasn’t been a very good year for the Spaniard. Murray won more matches in Doha than Carreno Busta did this entire year but don’t be fooled. He’s a really solid player who won one of the hard court Masters last year. I expect him to play really well here.
Despite both being seasoned veterans they actually never faced each other in a tennis match before. It’s a shame because on the surface it looks like a matchup that should benefit Murray more. Beating the Spaniard will be tough and I’m not sure I’m entirely sold on it.
Busta is a good clay player so a slower one doesn’t bother him. The Brit is slightly favoured but I’m going to go with the risky play of three sets in the match.
Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
