Alcaraz Makes a Brisk Start

Injury delayed his season, but ever since he began the 2023 campaign, Carlos Alcaraz has looked in top form.

The world no. 2 won the title in Buenos Aires by beating Cameron Norrie in the final and then finished runner-up to Norrie in Rio.

Now he has begun his third tournament of the season with a straight sets win over Thanasi Kokkinakis in Indian Wells. In what turned out to be a convincing performance, Alcaraz dropped just seven points of his serve in the entire match. He didn’t face a single break point while he converted 3 of 9 to win 6-3, 6-3 in an hour and 18 minutes.

The 19-year-old improved his season record to 9-1.

A seven-time champion on the tour, he is playing in Indian Wells for the third time. Last year, he had made it to the semifinals of the tournament before falling to Rafael Nadal in three sets.
