Stan Wawrinka v Holger Rune Head to Head
They played once before and it happened at the Paris Masters which Rune won in the end. The Swiss player had a match point against Rune but couldn’t close it out.

Stan Wawrinka is playing very solid tennis right now, winning two matches but the second one was particularly impressive. He took on Miomir Kecmanovic who is a college player and knows these types of courts well. The Serbian actually had a very impressive Sunshine double last year but this time around Wawrinka proved better.
He did it on two sets which just shows that he’s really playing solid and he confirmed that in his post-match interview eyeing a return to the top 30, possibly even the top 20. A good test for him will come against Rune whom he nearly beat at the event where the Danish player won his biggest trophy.
That match was indoors and probably in conditions where Wawrinka can hurt Rune more but still don’t expect the Swiss player to back down here easily. As long his serve is working well and giving him a decent amount of free points he’ll be in the match.
I’m not entirely sure he’s going to win or even is able to win but I do think it should be quite interesting.

Rune Cruising Along
Holger Rune looked pretty comfortable in his first Indian Wells match beating McDonald in straight sets. There asn’t much complication for him in that match and that was good to see. McDonald is a capable player who doesn’t mind playing longer rallies so Rune navigated that well.
This promises to be a bit different because Wawrinka is largely expected to hit the ball harder than McDonald and the rallies should be snappier.
Conditions favour Rune here as he’s quite quick around the court and has tremendous shot-making ability. He’s going to be favoured in any shorter rally and even a tiebreak. It’s likely that the match will fall on his racquet and that’s the way he prefers things to be.
Their previous one was close and this might be too. Dpeneds how well Rune plays and he’s been fairly decent lately albeit not close to his peak.
Wawrinka v Rune Prediction and Tip
I expect Rune to win because he’s just the better player. Eventually, that sort of thing matters and that’s why he won the previous match as well. I could see the over even if it’s in two sets so there is value there.
