Alejandro Davidovich Fokina v Cristian Garin Head to Head
It’s 1-1 from their previous meetings, Garin won on clay in Santiago in 2020, while Davidovich Fokina won on hard court in Antwerp in 2021.

World no. 28 Alejandro Davidovich Fokina edged out Australian Open semifinalist Karen Khachanov in the third round on Sunday to move into the fourth round of the tournament.
This is the first time that the Spaniard is in the Round of 16 of a Masters tournament outside Monte-Carlo, where he was a finalist last year.
Davidovich Fokina, who ousted China’s Wu Yibing in straight sets in the first round, was broken by Khachanov in the first game of the match. But he won five games in a row in the take charge of the set and take a one-set lead.
In the second set, the Spaniard was overpowered by the World no. 15, but he broke Khachanov’s rhythm in the final set. Davidovich Fokina was the first to break in the final set as he built a 5-2 lead. The Russian refused to go down easily as he got the break back, but Davidovich Fokina broke again in the next game to seal the contest 6-3, 1-6, 6-4.
This is the third time this year that the 23-year-old has won two consecutive matches in a tournament. He was a quarterfinalist in Adeliade and Doha this year. He has not won three in a row this season. Can he do that on Tuesday?

Garin Stuns Ruud
Qualifier Cristian Garin put up another impressive performance at the Indian Wells Open as he stunned third seed Casper Ruud on Sunday.
Garin, who has not dropped a set since the qualifying round of the tournament, did not drop a set against the world no. 4 either as he ousted Ruud 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) in under two hours.
The Chilean, who is playing in the tournament for just the second time, is into the fourth round for the first time. He had beaten Learner Tien and Filip Misolic in the qualifying round respectively, before ousting Daniel Elahi Galán and Yoshihito Nishioka in the first two rounds of the main draw.
Garin wasn’t broken in either of the first two rounds, but Ruud did break once in the third round contest to tie the second set at 3-3. However, Garin, who got the solitary break of the first set, ran away with the tiebreak in the second.
The five-time tour-level champion’s continued struggles over the last one year have seen him slip in the rankings, but the world no. 97 will be hoping to climb back up soon and he will surely benefit from his excellent performance in the Masters 1000 tournament.
Davidovich Fokina v Garin Prediction and Tip
This is going to be a close contest. Garin will be high on confidence after the win over Ruud and will put up a strong challenge, but Davidovich Fokina has displayed better form over the last one year and the 23rd seed should edge past the Chilean in three.
