Rublev Eases Past Humbert
Last year’s semifinalist Andrey Rublev knocked out Ugo Humbert in the third round on Sunday to continue his march forward in the tournament.
The Russian, who was a finalist in Dubai earlier this month, scored a second straight sets win in the tournament.
Rublev had begun his campaign with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Jiri Lehecka in the second round. On Sunday, he needed just an hour and 22 minutes to beat the world no. 77, 7-5, 6-3.
The world no. 7 had a slow start in the match, falling behind 0-3 in the first set. But he soon found his range and got in complete control of the contest. He broke Humbert twice in the first set and twice in the second.
Rublev improved to 11-6 in 2023 following the two wins.
The 12-time tour champion is a two-time Masters finalist but is yet to win an ATP 1000 title. He has looked in good touch in Indian Wells and will aim to go deep here.

Norrie Survives A Scare
World no. 12 Cameron Norrie survived a third round scare as he fought back from a set down to beat Japan’s Taro Daniel.
Norrie lost the first set in the tiebreak and then was broken early in the second, falling 0-3 behind. But then the Briton began to turn things around.
Norrie served 11 aces and 50 winners in the match. The lefty converted 7 of 10 break points and could save just one of five that he faced before winning the two-hour-41-minute contest 6-7 (5-7), 7-5, 6-2.
The 10th seed had earlier beaten Wu Tung-lin 6-2, 6-4 in the first round.
Thanks to the two wins, Norrie improved his season record to 20-3. He is on a seven-match winning streak. He had won the Rio Open in the previous tournament.
Norrie was also a finalist in Buenos Aires Open and in Auckland this year. The 27-year-old is 11-3 in Indian Wells and had won the title in 2021.
Rublev v Norrie Prediction and Tip
Both player’s are in great form at the moment. Rublev, however, holds a slight edge as he has more experience of playing in big competitions and has the ability to absorb the pressure that comes with big tournaments. Expect a three-setter with Rublev edging through.
