Felix Auger-Aliassime v Tommy Paul Head to Head

This will be the first meeting between Auger-Aliassime and Paul.

Auger-Aliassime Sends Cerundolo Packing

For the second match in a row, Auger-Aliassime faced a player who might have been a tad more comfortable on clay court. And for the second time in succession, Auger-Aliassime had his troubles but came through in straight sets.

Taking on Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo, Auger-Aliassime came through 7-5, 6-4 in two hours and six minutes to seal his fourth round berth.

The eighth seed, however, did face his own issues as he lost his serve twice in the match – once in each of the sets. After going 2-0 up, Auger-Aliassime dropped serve to allow Cerundolo to level things out at 2-2.

Auger-Aliassime failed to break his opponent in the seventh game despite getting two break-points, but finally got the better of his serve in the 11th. In the second set, Auger-Aliassime had a chance to serve it out at 5-2 when he was broken.

He, however, then saved two break-points at 5-4 and converted his fourth match-point to clinch the win.

Can Auger-Aliassime make it three wins in a row for just the second time this season?

Paul Overturns Hurkacz’s Start

Hubert Hurkacz was a bit of a favourite going into his third round match against Paul and he clinched the first set to prove just that. The American, however, has been in some of the best form of his career and came back to win the encounter in three sets and move into the round of 16.

In a match lasting an hour and 57 minutes, Paul won 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 to make the fourth round in Indian Wells for the second time in his career.

Paul was broken twice in the encounter, both of which came in the first set where he had gone from being up a break to lose the set.

Post this, however, Paul broke Hurkacz twice early in the second set and then again in the seventh game of the deciding set to get closer to the victory. Serving to make it 5-3, Paul then saved three break-points before serving out the match to love.

This follows a first round bye and a second round win over Jan-Lennard Struff to set up this meeting with the Polish number one.

Can he now get past Auger-Aliassime, a higher-ranked player but one struggling for deep runs this season?

Auger-Aliassime v Paul Prediction and Tip

Nothing to choose between these two players but given what Paul’s done this season we would have to give him the edge here. It could be down to who handles these drastically different conditions – slow courts and windiness – better.
