Pera Coming Off a Decent Showing in Indian Wells

Bernarda Pera is coming to Miami in decent touch. The world no. 37 produced her best-ever result at Indian Wells, reaching the third round of the tournament, before going down to Sorana Cirstea in straight sets.

The American, who had started the tournament with a three-set win over Lucia Bronzetti, saved three match points against Liudmilla Samsonova in the second round before scoring a come-from-behind victory.

The 28-year-old left-hander is 707 overall this season. She had also reached the third round of the Australian Open for just the second time in her career and was a quarterfinalist in Hobart.

Pera would happy with her performance in Indian Wells, particularly after going through a lean patch following her Australian Open exit. She had lost the first rounds in Linz and Dubai and failed to make it past the qualifying rounds in Doha.

A solid clay court player, Pera won her first two WTA titles last year, both on clay, in Budapest and Hamburg. While she is yet to produce big results on hard courts, she will be hoping to start well in Miami, where she makes her third appearance.

Pera made it to the second round in Miami in 2018 and was beaten in the first round in 2021.

Rodina Yet to Win a Main Draw Match in Miami

Evgeniya Rodina, who made a comeback to tennis at the US Open last year, following a two-year hiatus, finished 2022 with a 2-3 record and she is 1-2 so far in 2023.

The Russian, who lost in the first round of the Australian Open to Katie Volynets, registered her first win of the season in Indian Wells, where she stunned Alize Cornet with a 6-2, 7-5 victory.

She was, however, blown away in the second round by Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets.

The 34-year-old, who had once reached a career-high ranking of 67 in 2019, is currently ranked no. 427th in the world. She has been playing on the tour for a while but will be playing in the main draw in Miami for the third time.

While Rodina fell in the qualifying rounds seven times, she lost her opening round matches in 2014 and 2019. Can she win her first match in Miami?

Pera v Rodina Prediction and Tip

Pera has been in good form over the last one year and she is expected to win the opener without much fuss.
