Amanda Anisimova v Madison Brengle Head to Head

Their first meeting came at the 2019 San Jose Open where Anisimova had won in straight sets. The second time they met was in the qualifiers of the WTA Dubai where Brengle registered a victory in two.

Anisimova Has Just Two Wins This Season

Having hit a season high of 22nd in the world and ending 2022 ranked 23rd, one would have expected Anisimova to begin cracking at winning titles or going deep into tournaments at the very least.

Instead, the American has trailed off.

A first round rout at the hands of Veronika Kudermetova in the very first tournament she featured in was followed by a qualifying ouster in Adelaide 2. She made it through as a lucky loser and won her opener, only to lose to Beatriz Haddad Maia in the second round.

Since then she has played four matches and lost three. This includes a second round loss at the Indian Wells Open two weeks ago despite starting out as a seeded player.

With that kind of form under her belt, confidence might not be her forte coming into this Miami tournament where Anisimova had been bundled out in the first round last season.

Brengle Doing No Better

While there’s a huge gap in the ranking of the two players, Brengle was ranked as high as 57th at one point this season. She has fallen to 86th on the WTA charts thanks to a string of poor results.

In fact Brengle had begun the season with four successive defeats in the four tournaments she featured in. An opening round win over Julia Grabher at Linz broke that run but she hasn’t done too much more since that.

A second round defeat followed suit and the American then failed to qualify for both, the Dubai Open and the Qatar Open.

A first round win at the Austin Open and Indian Wells Open would have helped provide some relief but that’s where the good fortunes ended for Brengle. She was a second round loser to Martina Trevisan in Indian Wells despite starting out a 2/5 favourite against her clay court specialist opponent.

Can she take advantage of Anisimova’s poor form?

Anisimova v Brengle Prediction and Tip

While Anisimova hasn’t done well this season, some of it can be attributed to her draw which has seen the American feature against some of the top players in the world very early in competitions. Against Brengle, she shouldn’t have the same problem.
