Sasnovich Has Just Three Wins This Season

Having featured in seven WTA tournaments in 2023, Sasnovich would have expected to do a lot better than the three main draw wins she has registered so far.

Sasnovich, who had made it to the fourth round in Miami last season, made the second round at the Australian Open, WTA Dubai and the Indian Wells Open two weeks ago as her only three victories for the year.

At two of the other tournaments she was ousted in the very first round but it went even worse at Abu Dhabi and Doha. Sasnovich failed to make past the qualifiers in those competitions, losing to Mirjam Bjorklund and Rebecca Marino.

These performances come on the back of a highly successful previous season where Sasnovich had hit a career-high ranking of 29th on the WTA charts. Since then, however, she has fallen to 45th and given how deep she went in Miami last year, an early loss here will propel her rankings further down.

Galfi Will Be Reasonably Satisfied with Indian Wells Show

In a season which has seen Galfi bow out without winning a main draw match at five of the seven tournaments she has featured in, it’s fair to say she would be happy at having made the second round at the Indian Wells Open two weeks ago.

In reality, she had been eliminated in the qualifiers itself but a late withdrawal allowed her to make it through as a lucky loser. Still, she was a whopping 19/4 in her opener against the 2022 Australian Open finalist Danielle Collins.

It was a match she had no business winning, let alone in straight sets. But that’s what she did before bowing out in a hard-fought second round match to Caroline Garcia.

Galfi had also made it to the quarterfinal at the Linz Open in February aiding her in reaching her career-best ranking of 79th in the world. She will now hope to put up a strong front against a player who has barely done anything of note this season.

Sasnovich v Galfi Prediction and Tip

Tough battle between two struggling players. Sasnovich has the experience and has done her bit in hardcourt competitions, making her our pick as well.
