Anna Blinkova v Jule Niemeier Head to Head

Blinkova and Niemeier have never faced off in a competitive match before this.

Blinkova Hoping to Better Miami Record

The 24-year-old Blinkova has travelled to Miami just twice for her tennis and never gotten beyond the first round at this tournament. The first time she played was in 2019 where she was knocked out in the qualifiers while in 2021, Blinkova went down in three sets to Barbora Krejcikova in the very first.

This time around Blinkova has made the tournament as a direct entrant and faces a player who is ranked lower than her. Could this be her chance to improve upon her Miami Open showing?

She enters this edition of the tournament on the back of a modest showing this season, one that has seen her reach the semifinal of the Hobart International as a qualifier on the one hand and lose in the first round on three occasions on the other.

Blinkova did overcome Ann Li in the first round of the Indian Wells Open before this before Veronika Kudermetova sent her packing. A chance to do the same here too?

Niemeier 0-7 on Outdoor Hardcourts in 2023

It’s been a horrid start to the season for Niemeier, especially in outdoor hardcourt competitions and she would be desperate to turn things around.

Because in the six such tournaments that Niemeier has played this year, the German is yet to win a match so far. This includes a couple of defeats at the United Cup and five other first round exits at the Adelaide International 2, Australian Open, Lyon Open, Linz Open, Merida Open, Monterrey Open and more recently in Indian Wells two weeks ago.

While some of those defeats were understandable – like to Iga Swiatek in Melbourne – losses to Panna Udvardy, Caroline Dolehide and Anastasia Potapova would have come as a huge surprise.

Which is also why it’s no surprise that Niemeier doesn’t quite start off as a favourite in this encounter. Overturning a seven-match losing streak, even for a player who had made the fourth round at the US Open last year, would be a tough call.

Blinkova v Niemeier Prediction and Tip

Blinkova is the bookmakers’ – and our – favourite for this. We will have to go with the trend here and the trend has Niemeier losing seven matches in a row on this surface
