Huesler Will Be Short on Confidence

Marc-Andrea Huesler had ended 2022 on a high, but it’s been a struggle for him so far in 2023.

Huesler comes to Miami with an overall record of 7-8 this season. He has lost the last five tour-level main draw matches on the trot and will be short on confidence as he prepares to make his Miami debut.

Most recently Huesler featured in the Phoenix Challenger where he won the opener but lost the second round match to Alexander Shevchenko.

Huesler’s last win on the tour came on February 7th in the first round in Montpellier, since then he lost in the second round to Holger Rune and then made four consecutive first round exits in Rotterdam, Marseille, Dubai and Indian Wells.

While he has struggled to win on the tour, he has been good in team events winning both his matches at the United Cup and the Davis Cup this year.

It will be interesting to see if the Swiss can regain the form that saw him win his maiden ATP title in Sofia last year. The 26-year-old had finished 2022 with an 11-12 record on the tour and an overall record of 47-28.

Ramos-Vinolas Is 0-5 on Hard Courts in 2023

World no. 51 Albert Ramos-Vinolas is also struggling in 2023. He brings an overall record of 4-9 to Miami, with all four of those wins coming during the South American clay court swing.

Ramos-Vinolas is 0-5 on hard courts, and while the surface has never been his preferred choice, he will still be disappointed to have lost all his matches on it this year.

Can he make amends in Miami? He has a 9-7 record in the tournament and his best was a fourth round finish in 2013.

Over the last four years, Ramos-Vinolas has played little tennis on hard courts, registering more loses than wins.

The 35-year-old Spaniard’s best this year was a semifinal finish in Cordoba. He was also a quarterfinalist in Rio. Can the clay specialist find some form in Miami or will his winless streak on hard courts in 2023 continue?

Huesler v Ramos-Vinolas Prediction and Tip

It’s a matchup between two struggling players, but the surface will favour Huesler in this contest. Expect the Swiss to win but he may need three sets to do that.
