It has been a season to forget for the current #116 Viktorija Golubic, who is seeking her maiden WTA main-draw win of the 2023 season.
Around the same time last year, she was a part of the top 40, but now, the Swiss seems to have fallen on tough times. Her last singles final was the Rouen Challenger in October, while most recently, she was the runner-up in the Hobart International doubles.
Golubic’s record for the year stands at 4-6; all the wins came in the qualifiers – including the two in the Miami Open against Carol Zhao and Viktoriya Tomova.
The 30-year-old last played in Indian Wells, where she lost to Olga Danilovic in the opening qualifying match. In fact, Viktorija hasn’t won a WTA match since the Transylvania Open last October.

Baptiste Enjoys a Main-Draw Appearance
In some ways, it has been a similar season for the 21-year-old American Hailey Baptiste, who will be competing in her first main draw match since the Citi Open last season.
The 280th-ranked player did not have to go through the qualifiers, presenting her with a rare chance to pick a big win and move up in the rankings. Baptiste has focussed mainly on the ITF Tour in 2023, reaching two semifinals and two doubles finals.
This will be her third time in Miami; her last two stints ended in the first round itself, but perhaps, she can go a bit further this time around.
