Murray Coming off a Third Round in Indian Wells

Murray has been steadily notching up some strong performances this season and that has helped him climb up the rankings charts, slowly but steadily.

As recently as last month, Murray was ranked 70th in the world but a solid showing in Doha and a third round appearance at the Indian Wells Open have helped no end. The Brit has climbed back up to 52nd at the moment, having risen from 85th about 12 months ago.

What has been particularly revealing has been Murray’s fighting spirit.

There have been matches like the one at the Australian Open against Matteo Berrettini and against Alexander Zverev in Doha that he should have never won. But the never-say-die Murray has found a way to claw back into contention and moved forward.

As compared to that, Murray will be facing a relatively easier opponent here.

Lajovic Failed to Make the Indian Wells Main Draw

Having fallen to 90th on the ATP charts earlier this year, Lajovic was forced to feature in the Indian Wells Open qualifiers to try and make the main draw.

Lajovic was the top seed in those qualifiers but bowed out in the very first qualifying round. He had fallen a set behind and was trailing 4-0 in the second against Tennys Sandgren when Lajovic was forced to retire from the encounter.

Fortunately for Lajovic he seems to be back to full fitness at the moment and because of his performances in the South American swing, his ranking had improved enough to make the main draw in Miami.

The Serb’s issue is his lack of form on hardcourts. He has played three matches across different stages of hardcourt tournaments but lost all of them. And even that follows a string of five successive tournaments on that same surface where he didn’t make it past the first round.

Overcoming Murray here won’t be easy.

Murray v Lajovic Prediction and Tip

Murray is 1/5 to win this and while we agree with the fact that he is a favourite, we cannot be sure those odds represent great value. Instead we expect one of the sets to be a stiff one.
