Brandon Nakashima v Oscar Otte Head to Head

This will be the first career meeting between Brandon Nakashima ranked 45th in the rankings and Oscar Otte who sits 40 spots below him.

Nakashima 2-4 in 2023

Brandon Nakashima has not had a great start to 2023. With just two wins under his belt coming to this year’s Miami Masters, he cannot afford any more slip-ups against lower-ranked opposition.

That begins with his first-round match against Oscar Otte, likely on Wednesday.

With no match wins in Australia, the young American was forced to sit on the sidelines due to an injury during the indoor hard-court swing in North America last month.

Nakashima was made to sweat for his first Tour-level win of the season which came at the start of March. He defeated Daniel Altmaier in Acapulco before being humbled by compatriot Mackenzie McDonald in the following round.

His next tournament was at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, where he landed a harrowing draw. He defeated former finalist John Isner for just his second win of the season but lost thereafter to eventual finalist Daniil Medvedev in straight sets.

Otte Also Underwhelming in 2023

Nine months ago, Oscar Otte reached a career-high No. 36 after a fantastic run on the grass in his first full season on the ATP Tour.

For much of his career, the German has toiled the Challenger circuit, winning five titles at that level. But he produced some scintillating big-time tennis on home turf last summer, reaching back-to-back ATP semifinals for the first time, first in Stuttgart, where he earned a big win over Denis Shapovalov and then Halle, where he topped Nikoloz Basilashvili and Karen Khachanov.

But Otte has learned things the hard way that if he cannot stay consistent at Tour level, he is bound to tumble as quickly as a bird losing its feathers.

He has won three matches since the start of the season despite playing nine tournaments. Last a week a return to the Challenger Tour didn’t yield a positive result as he lost in straight sets to Alexei Popyrin.

Nakashima v Otte Prediction and Tip

No surprises about who starts as the clear favorite in this one. Nakashima has shaken off his recent injury niggles and should be expected to rout the German.
