Iga Swiatek v Claire Liu Head to Head
This will be the second time in as many tournaments that Swiatek and Liu will be facing off in the second round of the tournament, having also played in Indian Wells two weeks ago. Swiatek had dropped just one game to get past Liu in that one.

Swiatek looked like she was on her way to winning another title in Indian Wells when she was stopped short in the semifinal by Elena Rybakina.
Now Rybakina is a top player herself, has won a Grand Slam and was a runner-up at the Australian Open but for Swiatek to lose in the manner she did was surprising. A 6-2, 6-2 scoreline is usually what you associate Swiatek dishing out to her opponents than it going against her.
Later she revealed she had suffered a rib injury because of which she was unable to get going.
As a result of that defeat and the Dubai Open final loss to Barbora Krejcikova, Swiatek, who had won eight titles last season, is now on a mere one tournament win for the season.
She will hope to turn things around at this competition she had won last season.

Liu Makes it Through after Siniakova Retirement
Having started off an 8/5 underdog in her first round match against Katerina Siniakova, Liu looked like she was struggling to find a way past her opponent.
She dropped her serve four times in the first set to Siniakova and another time in the second. Serving at 2-3 in the second set after having lost the first, Liu needed to save four break-points before winning the game.
And then out of nowhere and just over an hour and a half in the encounter Siniakova had to retire from the match, giving Liu a free passage to the second round. It was her fourth opening round win for the season.
What this means is that for the second time in as many tournaments, Liu will face the difficult task of taking on Swiatek in the second round. Can she take advantage of her opponent’s injury this time?
Swiatek v Liu Prediction and Tip
Swiatek should not have a lot of worries against Liu but we can expect the American to come out attacking as she tests out the world number one’s ribs. Still expecting a straight-set win for the Pole.
