Jessica Pegula v Katherine Sebov
These two players never faced off against each other and that might work a bit in the favour of Sebov. I’m not saying she will win but she was able to surprise Fruhvirtova with her rather clean ball striking and Pegula might feel a similar way.
Luckily for the American, she’s a far better hitter than Fruhvirtova so she should be able to absorb that pressure rather well and send many fast balls back. Pegula has had a really strong year so far with some impressive showings but also some bad ones.
It’s pretty standard stuff for her but this is far more than she ever expected out of her career so she won’t be too disappointed. I’d say she can still improve but it’s unclear by how much. Miami has been decent for her in the past and she’ll likely do solid as well.
Sebov never played her before and even this is a premium for her. She’s had some moments this year but far from the level needed to compete with Pegula. Straight sets win for the American.
Tip: Pegula to win in straight sets: 1/2 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Elena Rybakina v Anna Kalinskaya
Rybakina and Kalinskaya never faced off against one another on the WTA circuit but they did play once on the ITF level. It was a few years ago and Kalinskaya was able to win that match but it would be a major upset if she manages to do that again.
Generally, players don’t play as well after winning a trophy which is why the Sunshine double hasn’t been won back-to-back by many players in history. Rybakina could do it because she’s really focused on her tennis right now and it’s been an excellent year so far.
Her serve could be a major weapon in this matchup but Kalinskaya can hit a good serve too. The Russian is also capable of hitting the ball really and she could put Rybakina under quite a bit of pressure but I expect her to handle that well.
The odd is a really solid one and I think Rybakina will win. This is too soon for her to lose even though the trends say she might drop this one.
Tip: Rybakina to win: 4/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Dominic Thiem v Lorenzo Sonego
Not many players struggled this year as much as Dominic Thiem and things don’t seem likely to change until he reaches clay. It’s doubtful there as well but he’s not favoured to win this clash here. Miami has been decent for him in the past but he’s only 2-9 so far this year.
It’s been quite poor and he’ll be vulnerable in this matchup against Sonego. The Italian has a really solid serve and if he can generate enough power on it, Thiem will have issues here. Sonego also likes to come out so that should help him as well.
It’s 1-1 in matchups so far but both of those were played on clay. Sonego won the most recent one in 2021 and I see him winning this one as well. He’s favoured by a solid margin and I just can’t back Thiem unless he shows a good level.
It’s been a very long time since then and despite Sonego being very streaky and prone to dropping matches he should win, I’m taking him here.
Tip: Sonego to win: 1/2 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
