Alejandro Davidovich Fokina v Brandon Nakashima Head to Head

They have faced off once before in their careers and that came earlier this season at the Adelaide International 2 where Davidovich Fokina had won in straight sets.

Davidovich Fokina Coming off Stupendous Indian Wells Showing

It was a brilliant performance from Davidovich Fokina at the season’s first Masters 1000 tournament as he carved his way through to the quarterfinal in that tournament. As a result of that, the Spaniard hit a career-high of 25th in the world as the new rankings were released earlier this week.

Having entered the tournament with seven wins and seven defeats to his name for the year, Davidovich Fokina would have been hoping for a better performance in Indian Wells than what he has dished out all season along.

He surprised Wu Yibing in the second round there but his bigger win came against Karen Khachanov whom he defeated in three sets in the third. He would go on to lose to Daniil Medvedev but not before he had given a fight.

Rather interestingly, Davidovich Fokina has played just once in Miami before this and that came in 2022. He was bundled out in the first round there.

The Spaniard has already bettered that by the virtue of a bye here and will hope to emulate his showing in Indian Wells now.

Nakashima Struts Past Otte

It hasn’t been the best of starts to the season for Nakashima but he would be slightly happier right now than he was at the start of the tournament. That would have been down to his poor record for the year which had seen him win just two of the six matches he had featured in this season.

Which is why a straight-set win over Oscar Otte in the first round would have been as much pleasing as it would have been a relief.

The American did remain on court for nearly an hour and a half but a 7-6 (3), 6-3 victory was par for the course, especially after having started off as a 1/3 favourite in the encounter.

The winner of his maiden ATP title last season and also a champion at the Next Gen Finals, Nakashima is just a couple of spots away from his career-best ranking of 45th. But he would know it’s time he gets himself a solid and consistent runs in competitions if he wants to protect his ranking.

Davidovich Fokina v Nakashima Prediction and Tip

Davidovich Fokina is a favourite here but not by much. Still we will go with the Spaniard after he showed what he is capable of in Indian Wells but not before Nakashima puts up a bit of a fight.
