Laslo Djere v Jannik Sinner Head to Head

The pair have played each other three times before, and Djere leads their head to head series by two matches to one.

He has won both their previous clay court matches, in Budapest in 2019, and in Kitzbuhel the following year, but Sinner was the victor in Indian Wells last year.

Djere Knocks Out Australian Qualifier

Djere has not got a good record in Masters’ tournaments – he was knocked-out of Miami in the first round last year, the same stage that he exited Indian Wells two weeks ago.

He, has, at least, improved on that, by out-classing the Australian qualifier, Aleksandar Vukic, the world number 168, in their first round match.

It was actually Djere who had to fend off early break points in the first set, but, having done so, he broke Vukic once, and then again, to take the advantage.

Serve largely dominated in the second set, although both men had break points towards the end, neither of which they could convert.

That meant a tie-break, and, although Djere was the first to go a mini-break down, two dropped Vukic serves put the Serb in the driving seat. Another dropped serve gave him the chance to serve for the match which he duly took.

Sinner Made the Indian Wells Semifinal

Sinner already has fond memories of this tournament. Two years ago he reached the final in Miami, before losing to the Pole Hubert Hurkasz.

And last year, he reached the last eight, one of three Masters’ quarter-finals that he notched up in the course of the season.

He has already been in two finals this year, winning in Montpellier, and finishing runner-up in Rotterdam, and the Italian number one carried that form into Indian Wells last week, going all the way to the semi-finals, beating the defending champion Taylor fritz in the process, before he was beaten by the eventual winner Carlos Alcaraz.

Given a first round bye in Miami, he will be hoping for another successful stay in Florida.

Djere v Sinner Prediction and Tip

Although Djere has the better head to head record, both of his victories came on his favourite surface of clay. The outdoor hard courts of Miami are much more suited to the game of Sinner, and, given the form that the Italian is in right now, it is hard to make too much of a case for the Serb.
