Aryna Sabalenka v Shelby Rogers Head to Head

There have been three previous matches between two players and Sabalenka has won every single time. They faced off as recently as the second round of the Australian Open where Sabalenka had dropped just four games to Rogers en route her title victory.

Sabalenka in the Form of Her Life

She has featured in four tournaments this season and reached the final of three of them, winning two. Sabalenka’s form has been the best she has had in her career and that could be seen in her smile at the end of the Indian Wells Open final where, despite losing to Elena Rybakina she was in her elements.

And why not, after all Sabalenka has already grabbed her maiden Grand Slam title having earlier kick-started the season with a tournament win in Adelaide.

She would have added a third had it not been for the brilliance of the same player whom she had beaten in the final of the year’s opening major. With wins over Barbora Krejcikova, Cori Gauff and Maria Sakkari in Indian Wells, it spoke of how well-prepared Sabalenka has been for the season.

Sabalenka now kick-starts her campaign at the Miami Open in the absence of Iga Swiatek as the highest-ranked player in the tournament. While she knows she is still a few points away from claiming the number one spot, a distant run here and a couple of other competitions in the near future could get her close.

Rogers Wards off Stephens Threat

Rogers had gone into her opening round match against the erratic Sloane Stephens as a favourite and while she needed three sets, she came through in the end.

The world number 42 was on court for an hour and 53 minutes as she registered a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 win over Stephens to make it to the second round in this tournament for the fourth successive time.

There was just one break of serve against Rogers which came in the second set. Having already won the opening set, Rogers retaliated with two breaks of her own in the decider to squeeze past her opponent.

Earlier this season, Rogers had made the quarterfinals in Abu Dhabi – her best ever showing for the year. That was also the only time she won back to back main draw matches.

She might find it a tad difficult to repeat that here, given her opponent is the in-form world number two.

Sabalenka v Rogers Prediction and Tip

Sabalenka might face somewhat of a challenge but should come through easily in the end. Straight-set win for the Belarusian.
