Nishioka’s last win was over a month ago when the Japanese player took down Oscar Otte in Delray Beach and since then it’s been only losses. To be fair he only played three matches but he hasn’t been playing that well and he’s had some injuries as well.
Things are apparently all good now and that’s good to hear because he’s a really nice watch when he’s playing well. He plays aggressively and quite precisely with no qualms about going forward. The lack of height is not a problem for him even when he serves because he can put a lot of pressure on your with the serve.
Hard courts are his main forte and he’s quite familiar with all the courts in the US making him the player likelier to adopt to the conditions here.
He never faced Molcan but he should have the upper hand simply due to having playing more tennis on such a court.

Good Win for Molcan
Alex Molcan hasn’t played that well this year but his recent outings have been really strong. The Slovakian produced a great level to take down Coric in Indian Wells which was a major upset and he now bested Thompson in Miami too. That’s a pretty notable win for him.
Even the loss to Fucsovics last week in Indian Wells was pretty good overall because the Hungarian had such a high level last week. On the season he’s still only 5-8 though which is very surprising.
He never played Nishioka and that will be a bit of a problem for him because the Japanese player has an interesting style that takes some getting used to. The key will be to keep him under pressure for much of the match, especially with his return.
If he can keep up the high energy level as he had against Thompson he might even wear him down as I prefer him in a longer match.
Nishioka v Molcan Prediction and Tip
This will be the first time they meet and Nishioka is the favourite. A lot remains to be seen about the Japanese player but he’s the favourite for a reason. I still like the over here because I don’t think Molcan will fold easily.
