Cameron Norrie v Gregoire Barrere Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these two players and both have won one. Both those matches came in 2019, at the Los Cabos Open and US Open respectively.

Norrie Makes Indian Wells Quarterfinals

Norrie was one of those very few top 20 players who switched from hardcourt tennis to clay after the Australian Open, did well there and has returned to hardcourt again.

He had made the final of the Buenos Aires Open where he lost to Carlos Alcaraz before avenging that defeat by beating the Spaniard in the title-decider in Rio. Norrie had come back from a set down in the Rio final to master Alcaraz.

At the Indian Wells Open, Norrie readjusted to life on hardcourt surfaces rather well.

He won three rounds there, including a win over Andrey Rublev before Frances Tiafoe got the better of him in the quarterfinals. He wouldn’t mind a similar, if not a better result at the Miami Open too having never made it past the fourth round in this competition.

Barrere Wins against Safiullin

It took him some time and three sets but Barrere managed to overcome the odds and Roman Safiullin to make it to the second round here. This was his first ever win in Miami having never played here before.

Barrere, who was 13/10 going into this opener against his Russian opponent, grabbed a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 victory in a match lasting an hour and 50 minutes.

Ranked 65th in the world, Barrere was broken three times in the encounter including at 1-1 in the third set but he still prevailed with some smart tennis. The Frenchman broke right back into the fourth game and then made it a second break in the sixth before clinching his win.

In turn, Barrere had managed to stall a three-match losing streak which had included a first round defeat at the Phoenix Challenger last week.

Things could get way tougher for Barrere in the second round though.

Norrie v Barrere Prediction and Tip

The manner in which Norrie adjusted to the Indian Wells Open surface and made it deep should be indicator enough that he wouldn’t have too many early problems here.
