Matteo Berrettini v Mackenzie McDonald Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between these two players and Berrettini has won both times. Both came in hardcourt competitions.

It’s quite strange that a former Wimbledon finalist and a one-time world number six that Berrettini is, he has never won a match at the Miami Master.
Truth be told, he has made only two appearances in this tournament and those came in 2018 and 2019. The tournament wasn’t held in 2020 and Berrettini did not take part in this competition in the following two years.
What would be interesting to see is if he can change that around given how brutal a year it has been for Berrettini anyway.
He had begun the season with three successive wins at the United Cup but then lost back to back matches. A first round loss at the Australian Open followed suit and while Berrettini made the quarterfinal in Acapulco, his second round defeat at the Indian Wells Open to Taro Daniel would have been a huge surprise.

McDonald Eases Past Galan
McDonald was a whopping 1/8 favourite in his opening round match against the struggling Daniel Elahi Galan and he lived up to those odds.
Having come into this tournament on the back of 12 wins from 19 matches for the season, McDonald eased to a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Galan in a match lasting an hour and 28 minutes.
The American faced 10 break-points in the match and was broken once – it came in his very first service game and gave Galan a 2-0 lead in the opening set. From that point on, however, McDonald jumped right back into it and got the better of Galan’s serve two times in a row.
With the first set safely pocketed, McDonald then broke his opponent in the very first game of the second set, missed four break-points in the third and made it two breaks of serve in the fifth.
He completed the last rites soon after to advance to round two much like he had done in Indian Wells two weeks ago.
