Sebastian Baez v Cristian Garin Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between these two players, both of which came on clay and were won by Baez. The second encounter came in 2023 itself in Santiago last month.

While Baez has already won a title this season and made the quarterfinal at the Rio Open and semifinal in Santiago, his record in hardcourt competitions has been less than appealing.
In fact it was only in Indian Wells two weeks that Baez finally won his first match in a hardcourt competition for the season. It came against Rinky Hijikata, a player who has never been in the top 100 of the singles rankings in his career.
It was followed by a third round defeat to Taylor Fritz.
Before that, Baez had lost in the first round at the Pune Open, Auckland Open and Australian Open too.

Qualifier Garin Overcomes Giron
Garin, much like Baez, has been known for his clay-court tennis but this season has been slightly different for the Chilean player.
Starting out as a qualifier in the Indian Wells Open, Garin found a way to make it through to the fourth round of the tournament there. Straight-set wins over Daniel Elahi Galan, Yoshihito Nishioka and, surprise surprise, Casper Ruud punctuated his journey before Alejandro Davidovich Fokina got the better of him.
Even here in Miami, Garin has had to win a couple of rounds in the qualifiers in a bid to make it to the main draw.
And in the first round here, he overcame Marcos Giron in three sets – a bit of a surprise given his American opponent plays almost all of his tennis in hardcourt competitions and is ranked 71st in the world.
Garin will now start off a favourite against Baez given what he has done over these last couple of weeks or so.

While Baez is a seeded player and way higher-ranked, it’s Garin who starts off a favourite on the hard courts of Miami. Expect a straight-set win for Garin.
