Jessica Pegula v Danielle Collins Head to Head

There has been one previous meeting between these two at the highest level and that came at the 2021 Montreal Open. Pegula had won it in three hard-fought sets.

Pegula Wastes No Time of Sebov

Pegula might have been disappointed with her fourth round loss at the Indian Wells Open last week but that didn’t show up in her second round performance in Miami.

The world number three wasted no time in dispatching Katherine Sebov in her second round match, having earlier gotten herself a bye.

In a match lasting a mere 66 minutes, Pegula won 6-3, 6-1 despite a semblance of a fight from her opponent in the first set. Having broken Sebov in the very first game, Pegula dropped her serve in the fourth game but that was about it in terms of resistance from her.

Pegula broke right back and repeated the dose three more times in the encounter to complete the win. This follows a quarterfinal appearance at the Australian Open and a title-decider showing at the Qatar Open.

Collins Shrugs off Indian Wells Discomfiture

Having been stunned in the first round of the Indian Wells Open last week by Dalma Galfi, Collins came back to boss her second round opponent here in Miami.

With a first round bye after being seeded in the competition, Collins registered a straight-set win over Viktoriya Tomova, clinching it 7-6 (3), 6-2.

An Austin Open semifinalist in what has been her best performance of the season, Collins lost her serve in both sets but was never in the danger of getting tested. In fact in the first set she was serving for the set at 5-4 and frittered away two set-points before dropping her serve.

In the second, Collins had taken a 3-0 lead with two breaks of serves when she was broken once. Collins came right back to grab the advantage with another break in the very next game and closed it out soon after.

Things could turn out to be very different against Pegula.

Pegula v Collins Prediction and Tip

Given Collins’ form against some of the top players this season, it would be fair to say that Pegula holds the edge here. She should come through but it might not be a straightforward one.
