Gracheva Stuns Fourth Seed

Gracheva had already shown what good form she is in by reaching the fourth round in Indian Wells, before losing to the eventual winner, Elena Rybakina.

And she had been able to deal with her first round opponent Reka-Luca Jani of Hungary with comparative ease.

However, she began the clear underdog in her second round match against the number four seed, Ons Jabeur.

Despite that, it was Gracheva who drew first blood with an early break, and not only did she save a break back point from the Tunisian, she consolidated her position with another break to take the first set.

Gracheva saved two break points on her own serve at the start of the second set, before Jabeur dropped her serve again.

When Gracheva was broken in turn, many expected the seed to begin her fight back. The opposite though happened, Gracheva immediately broke her again, and then once more, to seal a famous victory in just over an hour.

The 18 year old made the better start, breaking Frech in the tenth game of the match to take the first set.

But the Pole then hit back with a break of her own at the start of the second set, and two further breaks enabled her to level the match.

The tide had well and truly turned by this stage, and Frech raced into a four nil lead in third set. Andreeva temporarily halted her progress by recovering one of the breaks, but Frech would not be denied, and soon closed out the match,

Gracheva v Frech Prediction and Tip

Frech has enjoyed more than her share of good fortune in getting this far, but her luck may be about to run out. Gracheva will be full of confidence after beating Jabeur, and the chance to reach her second successive WTA 1000 fourth round is well within her grasp.
