Stefanos Tsitsipas v Cristian Garin Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings at the highest level between these two and Tsitsipas has won them both. Both those matches came on clay though.

After getting a first round bye like the other seeded players, Tsitsipas did not have to take to court yet again in the second round when Richard Gasquet withdrew from the tournament. Gasquet suffered an ankle injury and couldn’t take to court.
This follows a second round exit for the Greek number one at the Indian Wells Open where he had lost a three-setter to Jordan Thompson. Earlier he had also failed to make it past the second round of the Rotterdam Open.
What’s interesting is this sudden form brake in the previous two tournaments had come on the heels of a 12-1 win-loss record for Tsitsipas. It’s these sudden loss in results that make things difficult for the world number three especially when compared with some of the other top five players.
The good news for him is he will be well-rested coming into this one but having not played a competitive match in 17 days could be a bit of a worry for him.

Garin Usurps Baez
Combine a bit of luck with respect to the draw and his own stunning form turnaround and you have Garin winning three rounds in Indian Wells and two rounds here. Add the four qualifying round victories to the mix and you know that Garin is looking to get back to his sparkling best.
It was the kind of best that had seen him hit a world ranking of 17th in his career at the end of 2021.
From there on, Garin fell away in dramatic style and was bounced out of the top 100 but it seems like he could well be back, breaking into the top 50 at some point soon.
Here in the second round, Garin was up against the clay-court specialist Sebastian Baez and took full advantage of that. He might have needed two hours and three minutes to get past his Argentine opponent but he did so in straight sets, winning 7-6 (2), 6-3.

Tsitsipas will look to shrug off his Indian Wells shock loss as he tries to gallop into the fourth round. We expect an easier time on court for him this time. Straight sets.
