Rybakina Easily Sends Mertens Packing

After having been taken to three sets and needing to save a match-point against Paula Badosa in the previous round, it was business as usual for Rybakina in the fourth round.

The Wimbledon and Indian Wells Open champion carved out a 6-4, 6-3 win over Elise Mertens to make it to the last eight stage of a tournament she had never gotten past round three earlier.

Rybakina needed an hour and 46 minutes on court and slammed 10 aces in her straight-set win over an opponent who also fired all cylinders with her first serve. It was Mertens’ second serve that became a problem for her as Rybakina won a whopping 69% of the points off it and broke her three times in the process.

With this, Rybakina is now on a 11-match winning streak and 19-4 for the season – the second-most matches won in the year. She plays an opponent who had captured just three victories in 2023 before this competition.

Trevisan Fairy-Tale Continues in Miami

As we mentioned earlier, Trevisan had won a mere three main draw matches this season at the start of this competition.

All of a sudden, with a fourth round win against Jelena Ostapenko, Trevisan has managed to double her count! She is now 6-8 on win-loss this year with her third straight upset win of the tournament as she usurped Ostapenko 6-3, 6-3.

Trevisan, who had gone into the encounter at a whopping 17/4 to get past her Latvian opponent, eased past her opponent in an hour and 32 minutes.

Sure, she was broken twice – once in each of the sets – but showed excellent resilience to not let Ostapenko run away with the encounter.

In the first, she overcame Ostapenko’s serve twice to take a 4-1 lead before she dropped her own. And then in the second, Trevisan fell 2-0 behind with an early break against her.

Both times she held her nerve and found a way past her 22nd-ranked opponent.

It could be a different tale against the rampaging Rybakina but she would be content in knowing she has nothing to lose here.

Rybakina v Trevisan Prediction and Tip

While Rybakina is a 1/12 favourite to win this and 1/3 to do that in straight sets, the better market to look is the games handicap one. We believe Rybakina has the game to send her opponent packing but Trevisan has been quite resilient so far. Can the Kazakh break that easily?
