More known for his exploits on clay court competitions, Cerundolo registered one of his biggest wins outside of the red dirt when he overcame Felix Auger-Aliassime in the third round in Miami.
Cerundolo won 6-2, 7-5 in an hour and 43 minutes to progress to the fourth round for the second time in a row.
Even last season, Cerundolo had surprised the world with victories against Frances Tiafoe and Jannik Sinner but this is the first time in his career that the Argentine has beaten a top-10 player in a hardcourt competition.
The match lasted an hour and 43 minutes, with Cerundolo broken just once in the encounter. In turn he got the better of his opponent’s serve on four occasions including twice in the first set without return.
He will now fancy another shot at a quarterfinal spot here.

Sonego Surges to a Stunning Win over Tiafoe
Coming into this tournament, Sonego had won just five matches this season to go with with eight losses. That included a first round defeat at the Indian Wells Open at the hands of Jason Kubler.
Here though, Sonego has found himself an extra gear by the looks of it.
He did not face a lot of difficulties in sending the struggling Dominic Thiem on his way before overcoming the out of form Dan Evans in the second round. It was his third round win over Frances Tiafoe that sent the fans into raptures.
After all, Sonego had started off a 11/5 underdog in the encounter and for him to send Tiafoe out in straight sets was a stunner. He needed a mere 68 minutes to carve out a 6-3, 6-4 victory over the American.
