Daniil Medvedev v Quentin Halys Head to Head

They have never faced off each other at the highest level. There was one match back in 2015 on the Futures circuit and Halys had won it in two.

Medvedev Gets a Walkover

Medvedev hasn’t been on court for any significant length of time in this tournament to reach the fourth round.

He had a first round bye here and followed it up with a 6-1, 6-2 pummelling of Roberto Carballes Baena. And those 63 minutes which he took to defeat his Spanish opponent was the only time Medvedev has needed to make it to the round of 16 as his third round opponent Alex Molcan withdrew from their match.

What this means is that Medvedev is now one step closer to emulating his previous best at Miami – which came in 2021 and 2022 – but more importantly also to making his fifth successive final.

The Russian had earlier won titles in Rotterdam, Doha and Dubai and reached the final of the Indian Wells Open as well where he had lost to Carlos Alcaraz.

Given that kind of form, he should not have too many difficulties against Halys.

Halys Makes it Two Shock Wins in a Row

In the first 41 days of the season, Halys had won five main draw matches on the ATP circuit but since then defeats in the first round at four successive tournaments in Rotterdam, Doha, Dubai and Indian Wells would have left him questioning his methods.

So much so he opted to feature in the Phoenix Challenger in the lead-up to this tournament and he made it to the semifinal there.

Halys did start off a favourite in the first round here against Pedro Martinez and won it in straight sets but his subsequent two wins have been shock results. First he edged out the 3/10 favourite Alex de Minaur in the second round and then overcame Mackenzie McDonald in straight sets to enter the last 16.

Beating Medvedev might be a bridge too far, but he would already be chuffed with his solid performances in this competition.

Medvedev v Halys Prediction and Tip

Medvedev should not have a lot of worries here, and a straight-set rout beckons despite his lack of time on court. After the kind and amount of tennis he has played this season, that break might not be such a bad thing.
